Christmas 2018
Christmas started with much fun and laughter as we met
with family members. Our son Ryan, his wife Missy, and their two children Finn
and Molly came over to our place December 24 in the afternoon to celebrate
Christmas. We had a great time having them over, exchanging gifts, playing with
Finn, and talking. We then all went to the Taylor’s (my husband’s family) for
dinner. My sister-in-law Michele had dinner made for all of us as Ryan’s family
was celebrating Taylor Christmas on this day. It was wonderful spending time
with the Taylor family.
On Christmas Day (December 25) my husband and I spent
some time together first thing in the morning. We then drove over to Bill’s
house (my father-in-law) to play a gift exchange game with the Taylor family. There
was lots of laughter as gifts were opened. My husband and I went back home
for the afternoon then returned to Bill’s for Christmas dinner. Once again it
was fun spending time with the Taylor's.
Bev and I were with mom at the St. Boniface
On Boxing Day (December 26) we had planned on having
our usual Penner Christmas. Sadly, my sister Bev gave me a phone call in the
morning to let me know that mom was not speaking – her eyes were closed but
she was breathing. Mom was immediately taken by ambulance to a hospital in
Winnipeg. My husband drove me to the Health Science Centre where my mom
arrived. In an emergency room I saw my mom. I was thrilled to see her. I was so
grateful to see that her eyes were open and that she was saying a few words. We
found out quite quickly that mom had a small stroke. After talking to the
neurologist mom was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at the Steinbach
hospital. As soon as we got there Bev went to get dad who has a room on the
second floor in Rehab. It was heartwarming to see dad take mom’s hand and talk
to her. By now mom was able to talk which we were grateful for. Mom ended up
staying in the hospital until December 28. It was unfortunate that our Penner
Christmas was cancelled, but we all are grateful that mom and dad are both
hanging in there. For now Bev and I are spending time with mom and staying for
night. I feel so blessed that I still have both of my parents.
